Traditionally, brewing a pot of coffee meant that someone was responsible for the amount of coffee that was needed. This resulted in some strong brews, and some weak, depending on who was making it that day. Frack packs; smaller, single brew packages, take care of this problem.
Fraction packs are simply premeasured amounts of coffee split into fresh sealed packages. To brew a pot of coffee, one opens a frac pack into the basket with a paper filter, and a perfect pot is brewed every time. The guesswork is taken out of coffee measurement, and cleanup is a breeze. A consistently delicious brew combined with effortless preparation is ideal for the office environment, where everyone has things to do besides worrying about who is going to take care of the coffee.
Another advantage for frack packs over large ground containers is freshness, the package is only opened right before brewing, assuring a good, fresh flavor. Coffee in large containers degrades over time, making the last cup of the can taste very different from the first.
Frack packs are a good middle ground between individually brewed cups, and coffee sitting out all day. As far as size, choose one appropriate to your brew method. Most people choose a 1.5 oz pack for a 64 oz glass pot brewer, for 72 oz. airpots, 2.5 oz to 3.25 oz would be appropriate and use 8 oz for a gallon to 1.5 gallons.
